Do you have hair problems? You’re not the only one. Not only that, but there are a variety of hair problems out there.
Some people start losing their hair as young as 15 years old. As we age, the scalp loses the ability to hold moisture, so it’s normal to experience dry hair. And if your hair is dry and frizzy, there’s a chance you may suffer from hair breakage.
No matter what hair problem you have, there are a variety of treatments for you. CBD oil may be one of them. But does it really work? And how do you find the best CBD for your hair?
Whether you have typical hair dryness or a specific condition, you may be wondering if CBD can help your hair. While more research needs to be done, we know that hemp cannabinoids such as CBD can strengthen hair. The fatty acids in hemp seed oil are also essential to hair health.
I will recommend two CBD products the most for hair: Gold Bee CBD Oil and Briogeo Cbd + Arnica Scalp Oil. Gold Bee CBD Oil is not only potent but is also made from organic hemp grown in Colorado. MCT oil is used as the carrier, boasting some benefits to the hair.
Briogeo’s Scalp Oil is a topical hair treatment that soothes unruly hair. It’s a lightweight treatment, but you should always wash it out. Apply the scalp oil right before bed and wash it out the next morning.
What Does CBD Do for Hair?
While more research needs to confirm these findings, CBD may benefit your hair in more ways than you think.
Hair loss comes in different forms. For some, the hair thins. And others may develop a receding hairline or even bald spots. There are many reasons we experience hair loss, aside from genetics and age. Lack of nutrients and even chemical deposits can cause hair loss.
So, how does CBD oil help with hair growth? Hemp is a valuable source of omega-3 fatty acids. Multiple studies confirm that various omega fatty acids increase hair growth and increase hair density.
For best results, take CBD along with a separate omega supplement. Many CBD oils contain hemp seed oil as a carrier oil, but you can also add a fish oil supplement to your daily health regimen.
From dryness to eczema, the scalp can experience a variety of conditions. These ailments can also affect your hair health. In several studies, CBD exhibited anti-inflammatory properties.
Many brands also claim that CBD can balance oil production in the scalp, which reduces hair dryness. Though I can’t find a study to confirm this, I’m also reading that CBD may balance pH levels.
There are many reasons why one would have weak hair. While most may suffer from hair damage due to hair dye and styling products, UV rays and pollution can also damage the hair.
Even if your hair is only dull and lifeless, you may want something to make your hair look bouncy and healthy again. While there are countless hair products, you may want to consider CBD oil.
When using a CBD product that you apply directly to the hair, the moisture properties will smooth your tresses. If you take CBD oil orally, the cannabinoid will help your hair from the inside out, providing your hair with the nutrients needed to grow long and strong.
In addition, CBD has antioxidant properties. This means that CBD can protect your hair from environmental damage.
Should I Use Hemp Seed Oil?
Instead of CBD, you may have heard of using hemp seed oil instead. But is that a good idea?
First, let’s discuss the difference. CBD is a cannabinoid called cannabidiol. It’s found in the leaves of the hemp plant. CBD offers an abundance of benefits thanks to its interaction with the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
Hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. It contains no CBD or other cannabinoids, but it’s very high in omega-3 fatty acids. They’re also high in various other vitamins, protein, and minerals.
Since hemp seed oil is potent in vitamins and proteins, I would recommend it more as a weekly treatment. Apply a hemp seed oil product directly to the hair and leave it on as a mask. Rinse it afterward.
CBD is a great daily supplement to take daily. I recommend taking oil in the sublingual method, which means holding the oil under your tongue before swallowing. This way, the CBD can aid your health in various other ways instead of just benefitting your hair.
You can also get the best of both worlds by choosing CBD oil with hemp seed oil as a carrier.
How to Choose the Best CBD Oil for Hair Health
When finding the best CBD oil for your hair, you’ll want to take specific factors into consideration. These include:
To grow the best hemp for CBD extraction, the farmers must grow it organically without GMOs, pesticides, and other synthetic compounds.
Hemp plants quickly absorb the compounds around them. If the farmer never grew hemp in this manner, these dangerous compounds could wind up in your CBD oil.
Even if the farmer grew the hemp perfectly organically, this doesn’t mean the CBD product won’t contain toxic compounds.
If the cultivators extracted the CBD, cannabinoids, and terpenes using solvent extraction, solvent traces could end up in your product.
There are many safer alternatives to solvent extraction, CO2 extraction being one of them. CO2 is used to pull the cannabinoids and terpenes out of the plant to avoid any toxic substances.
Third-Party Lab Test Results
After the brand creates the CBD product, they will send a sample to an outside lab to test the safety and effectiveness.
They will look for cannabinoid percentages and ensure the THC content is below the legal requirement. The lab will also check for unwanted substances such as pesticides and heavy metals.
Most CBD companies have the lab test results (called the certificate of analysis) readily available on their website. If they don’t, contact them and ask. And if they don’t offer a COA, purchase CBD through another company that does offer a COA.
Choose Full Spectrum
CBD is available in three types:
- Full spectrum
- Broad spectrum
CBD isolates only contains CBD. Broad spectrum contains all cannabinoids and terpenes from the hemp plant, without THC. But full spectrum CBD contains less than 0.3% of THC.
Why is this important? First off, there is little research on THC and hair health, so it’s not due to that. It’s because of the entourage effect.
When one consumes both CBD and THC, it’s called the entourage effect. The argument here is that CBD and THC are more effective when consumed together.
Keep in mind there are times when full spectrum CBD isn’t right for you. Workplace drug testing is the perfect example; while 0.3% of THC won’t get you high, it can appear on a drug test.
No FDA Warning Letters
If a company labels or markets CBD in a way that violates FDA guidelines, it will receive a warning letter. You can easily find a brand that received a warning letter on the FDA website.
What are ways that a CBD company can go against FDA regulations? Since CBD is not approved by the FDA, brands can’t say it treats, prevents, or cures a specific ailment. These brands also can’t market CBD as a supplement.
While oral CBD products are the most popular, some may prefer putting CBD oil directly on their tresses. There are also CBD oils meant for the skin and hair. I will recommend a couple of them below.
The Best CBD Oil for Hair
Are you ready to achieve healthy hair? Here are some CBD oils to try!
I have never heard of this company, and now I wish I had discovered them sooner.
Gold Bee is a company that strives to make high-quality health products for humans and works to help the environment.
They use organic hemp grown in Colorado. Some of their tinctures are infused in honey (though there is an unflavored option for vegans and anyone who doesn’t like honey).
They only use hemp extract and MCT oil in their tincture. However, the honey-flavored one also features honey and stevia extract. Gold Bee offers CBD tincture in two potencies: 1200mg and 2400mg.
- Full spectrum
- Uses Colorado-grown organic hemp
- Gold Bee says their products are third-party lab tested, but I can’t find the test results
- Honey flavor isn’t vegan
- Too potent for beginners

Finally, tamanu seed oil strengthens the hair. This oil is best for those who struggle with frizzy and weak hair but still look for a lightweight hair product.

Philip B CBD Scalp + Body Oil
THIS IS NOT AN EDIBLE PRODUCT! THIS IS ONE YOU PLACE TOPICALLY ON YOUR HAIR!
This hair and scalp oil by Philip B is designed to calm frizzy and unruly hair. In addition to CBD, this oil also features cannabigerol (CBG). While studies on CGB and hair are limited, I’m reading it can help dry skin. I’m assuming it does the same thing for hair.
You can also apply this product to your skin. To use, massage oil onto scalp or skin as needed.
- Soothes unruly hair
- Also works great on the skin
- Gently moisturizes scalp and skin

Question: Does CBD Have Any Side Effects?
Answer: Research on CBD’s safety is still limited. However, clinical studies do show that humans tolerate CBD well. However, CBD does come with some mild side effects. These include diarrhea, drowsiness, and weight changes.
Question: I Want to Use a CBD Hair Product. Does It Have to Contain THC?
Answer: Going back to the full spectrum advice, some hair products may contain trace amounts of CBD.
The brand will label the product as full spectrum or otherwise. Again, hair products containing THC won’t make them psychoactive. But topical full spectrum CBD still uses the entourage effect, thus making the results more effective.
But what if a great hair product only contains broad spectrum or isolated CBD? I say go for it.
Though there are entourage effect benefits, there is little research on topical CBD products containing THC. Though they won’t get you high, we don’t know much about how THC directly affects the hair.
Question: What Other Options Do I Have for Hair Health?
Answer: For oral ingestion, our hair requires certain vitamins to stay healthy.
These include vitamins A, C, D, E, and B. In addition, fatty acids also benefit the hair. While you can get all of these vitamins from supplements, eating a well-balanced diet is the key to getting in all of your food groups.
For topical, I personally use high-quality conditioners and leave-in conditioners. Detanglers, oil, the right shampoo, UV-protection products, and hair masks are essential. Even the right shower cap and hair towel make a difference.
Hair problems are all too common, and we all want to find a way to improve our tresses. CBD
can work from the inside and out to benefit your hair in many ways.
CBD comes in different forms.
It’s recommended you take a full spectrum CBD tincture or oil to ensure you get the right amount of cannabinoids and fatty acids. You can also take a hemp seed oil supplement for fatty acids. There are also topical CBD products that you apply directly to your hair.
When shopping for CBD, be sure to look for certain product factors such as the test results, CBD and hemp source, no FDA warning letters or unrealistic health claims, full spectrum, and your product preference.
