The CBD dispensaries are giving away free dog treats to owners interested in trying a different way to calm their anxious pups during the July 4 holiday.

Since it’s no secret pets and fireworks don’t mix, CBD dispensaries in Holland, Perrysburg and Oregon have been giving out free dog treats for years.

In Oregon, Store Manager Sam Webb told WTOL 11 they stand by the treat as a helpful product to keep dogs comfort during the holiday.

For many dogs, the loud booms and bright flashes that come with July 4 celebrations can be terrifying — triggering anxiety and amplifying their natural fight-or-flight response.

Webb said the treats are made specifically for dogs and are completely natural.

“These are all natural. There's no way to over do it, we got that going for us. But, these are all natural great ingredients. Pups really seem to love them. I don't know why they all love beef and bacon, but they can't get enough,” Webb said.

She explained how the treats are specifically designed to help reduce stress without any harmful side effects. They can also be a good addition with thunder jackets or headphones for the dogs to continue keeping them calm.

While many pet owners are turning to CBD as a calming solution, Webb said it's best to consult with your veterinarian if you're unsure or have any specific questions about your pet.

“It's got weight requirements and all that good stuff. You can make sure you're getting the right dose. But the good news is, there's no way you can over do it. Even if pup gets into the whole bag it's just gonna be the best nap ever,” Webb said.

She added there are a number of safe and effective options to keep your pet calm during fireworks season. Webb added that samples are available at participating dispensary locations while supplies last.
