That's the opinion of one devoted pet owner, who has taken military precision steps to keep bad smells away.
It's the only way to keep a home fragrant and not rancid.
Her method works, she says, and you can try it out to prove it.
She was responding to an appeal on Reddit.
“What's the best way of stopping your house smelling of dog?” asked a concerned Redditor.
She came to the right place for help because she got a comprehensive response.
“I loathe having my house smell like a dog,” said this dog lover who has it all sussed.
“Here’s what’s worked for us,” she revealed.
Cardinal rule number one was to ditch wall-to-wall carpets.
“Laminate throughout,” she said.
But rugs were okay as long as they were cleaned frequently.
Dogs need grooming and self-care too.
She said to keep to their bathtime schedule.
“Baths and grooming every two to three weeks,” she said.
“Use a spray-in conditioner with a light scent.”
If you can't cope with the constant sweeping away of dog hair, then it's time to consider what dog breed you have.
“Choose dogs that don’t shed hairs, [but it's] not always a possibility,” she said.
As any pooch fans will admit, dog food can be smelly.
But there is an easy solution to this.
“[Keep] dog food in airtight containers,” she wrote.
And don't forget their food bowls.
“Wash dog bowls every week,” she said.
These should go in the laundry almost as often as the owner's bedding.
“Couch covers that get washed weekly,” she said.
“Wash bedding – ours and theirs – weekly. Mattress protectors are washed once a month,” she added.
Her last tip was to get a diffuser. But check these are suitable for pets.
There was one commenter, however, who insisted dog bowls should be washed far more frequently.
“My dog's food bowls get washed after every meal. Water bowl every day,” they said.
