A DOG trainer has revealed the six breeds that she wouldn't recommend for first-time owners.

So if you’ve been debating which breed is right for you, you’ve come to the right place.

Posting on social media, in a now-viral video, Ingrid, a dog expert from Northern California who’s been handling dogs for over eight years, revealed the breeds to avoid if you’ve never had a pooch before.

Australian Shepherd

According to Ingrid, Australian Shepherds are high-need and high-drive dogs.

She claimed that Australian Shepherds need an owner that can stimulate their needs

She claimed that these dogs need a lot of space and they need an owner that’s determined to stimulate their needs, and therefore, often aren’t the best pick for amateur owners.

Border Collie

Similar to the Australian Shepherds, Ingrid claimed that Border Collies have high needs and ‘need to be working’.

According to Ingrid, Border Collies constantly need to be worked

To this, Ingrid added: “If you’re not constantly ready to work with your dog, Border Collie is not a good option.”

German Shepherd

Where German Shepherds are concerned, Ingrid claimed: “I think their looks are very appealing, but the key with German Shepherds is they are very sensitive and they’re very territorial and they’re very specific to their humans.”

She claimed that 'most people aren't prepared' to deal with German Shepherds

As a result, Ingrid claimed that ‘most people aren't prepared’ to deal with such a dog.

Husky

Whilst Huskies are a very common pooch, Ingrid claimed that in her opinion, they’re not suitable for first-time owners.

Ingrid claimed that Huskies have a 'wild temperament'

She explained: “Huskies are some of the wildest temperament dogs that exist and if you’re prepared to have a dog that’s going to be wanting to be doing what it wants to do all the time, fine.

“But I don’t think it’s the right dog for a first-time dog owner, unless you know the breed very, very well.”

I’m a vet and would never own a type of ‘abomination’ cross-breed – I love my patients but they’re ‘nuts’ and ‘neurotic’

Belgian Malinois

When it comes to the Belgian Malinois, Ingrid claimed that they have skyrocketed in popularity recently.

According to Ingrid, the Belgian Malinois is simply 'too much' for many owners

However, she claimed that they are simply too much for someone without experience in owning dogs.

Doodle

Finally, this pet pro claimed that Doodles are not suitable for first-time owners.

She also claimed that Doodles are not bred ethically

She concluded: “Ethical Doodle breeding just does not exist. There’s no breed standard – even if they say they run health tests, it’s just mixing breeds intentionally for profit. It’s not ethical.”

Instead, Ingrid recommended Portuguese Water Dogs, or Golden Labradors as more suitable breeds for first-time owners.

Viewers clap back

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ingrid.pups, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up a staggering 123,100 likes.

Social media users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on Ingrid’s claims – and many were quick to disagree that Doodles weren’t suitable for first-time owners.

All you need to know as a dog owner

One person said: “Never met anyone with a bad experience with their Doodle. They’ve all been fantastic dogs.”

Another added: “Agree with all but Doodle. They’re amazing! Just be ready to groom and train.”

My Doodle is the best thing I have ever owned. We don’t care

TikTok user

A third commented: “Disagree with the Doodle for a first time owner! They are the absolute best. Mine is the biggest cuddle bug and has a great temperament.”
