I’m a dog trainer – three breeds I’d never recommend for first-time owners, including the pooch that’s a bag of nerves

FROM toilet training to walks in the rain, deciding to welcome a puppy into your home is a big decision that owners really need to consider carefully.

But if you've finally made the decision but can't settle on a breed, then you may just want to listen up…because a dog trainer named Jacob has revealed the five breeds he'd never recommend to a first-time owner.

And it's not good news if you've got your heart set on a Border Collie…

In the clip shared to TikTok (@yorkshirecanineacademy), he begins by saying that the first dog breed he'd urge newbies to steer clear of is the Hungarian Vizsler, which he describes as “a little bit like a Labrador on meth.”

Sharing a few of their negative traits, he notes that this specific breed is typically quite “needy” and “clingy.”

He adds that unless they receive regular exercise, then chances are they'll be very vocal…and make sure you know about it!

Next up on his list is the German Shepherd, which he warns isn't bred like it was a few decades ago.

He jokes: “It's about as defensive as your fella gets when you ask him who he's been out with till 6am.”

The dog trainer goes on to note that if you don't take the time to socialise your pet pooch as required, then chances are this breed could become a “bag of nerves.”

He goes on to say that while they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes nowadays, it's best to stick to black, tan, or sable.

And last but not least, Jacob recommends first-time owners steer clear of Border Collies.

He asks: “Have you ever seen a crackhead not get his fix for the week? That's these guys when they haven't been worked enough.”

The dog trainer goes on to say he'd rather recommend a pet giraffe than this breed of dog, before urging pet owners to stick to trusty black Labradors.

The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 346k views and several comments – with very mixed responses.

“I think I have the world's laziest Collie! Parents were working dogs and she only works at sleeping,” wrote one.

A second penned: “I've got a Viszla and 5 border collies. oh and my little Teddy bear Shihtzu.”

Nine facts you should know ahead of time:

“My first dog was a Border Collie,” commented a third.

” I did need to get a trainer to help me with him but I loved him so much. I miss him.

“I have a 1 year old Labrador now but I have a young child now so recommend labs.”

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “First time dog owner with Hungarian Vizsla, I couldn't agree more but with good discipline and consistency they are the BEST.”

A further added: “Watching this whilst my Vizsla is currently barking at me for attention because he wouldn’t go out for a walk today as he HATES rain and cries when he gets wet!”

And one more quipped: “Over here with a Border Collie and an Aussie lol. I live on the edge!”
