TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center has launched a Dog Sleepover Foster Program in response to a surge in intakes this summer.
This program allows residents to take a dog home for short periods, from one night up to 30 days, with the shelter providing food and supplies.
Interested participants must complete an application and a successful meet and greet with existing pets at home.
The initiative aims to free up shelter space and enhance dogs' adoptability by giving them a break from kennel stress, fostering socialization, and providing insights into their behavior in a home environment.
Animal Control Supervisor Arleen Garcia encourages fostering as a way to improve a dog's quality of life and increase its chances of adoption, even if fostering temporarily is preferred over adoption.
The shelter operates Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and can be contacted at (520) 458-4151.
