ST. LOUIS — Natural pet food company Instinct Pet Food announced Aug. 7 that it has received accreditation from the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC). According to the company, the recognition underscores its commitment to sustainable business practices and its continued efforts to reduce its overall environmental impact.

PSC accreditation is awarded to pet industry companies that demonstrate a strong commitment toward sustainability through measurable progress in environmental and social responsibility. The accreditation process includes a rigorous evaluation of a company’s sustainability initiatives, policies and impact.

Instinct has long been committed to the environment through many initiatives. For example, the company’s new Center of Excellence (CoE) manufacturing facility in Lincoln, Neb., is LEED Certified, making it one of the few pet food processing plants in the United States to carry such certification. All fish used at its Lincoln pet food operations are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), in an effort to help end overfishing and ensure seafood is sourced sustainably.

The company was one of the first signatories of the PSC Packaging Pledge, through which all Instinct packaging will transition to recyclable materials by the end of 2025. Additionally, the company is embarking on a journey to become carbon neutral in 2050, with ambitious plans to meet this achievement in 2030.
