Iredell Animal Control seeking homes for seven dogs

Are you ready for a new pet in your life? All of these animals are available for adoption at Iredell County Animal Services, 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

All this week’s pets have been spayed or neutered and are looking for their forever homes. Come and meet them.

Finley (A288213) found his way here as a stray and he is ready for a life of family and forever. He is a little overweight at 79.9 pounds, and is simply adorable! He was already neutered when he was found, so we know he was somebody's baby at one time, and was even microchipped. But his previous family could not be found and no one ever came for him. This handsome setter retriever mix is estimated at 4 years of age and he is ready to start his next chapter. We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption. You have to meet this big ol' sweet boy who LOVES squeeze cheese! His fee is waived.

All adoptions include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines and microchip. Business hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Access from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday is by appointment.

For current adoption specials, visit the shelter in person as these change frequently.

Carrie Underwood (A288144) is our current long-timer, having been at the shelter now for 44 days and we wish we could tell you why she’s been here for this long, but we can’t. This is only to be a “Temporary Home” for this beautiful brindle Australian Cattle dog mix! She has one playful personality and once she is out of her kennel a little bit, this 1 year, 1 month old calms down and is so sweet! She has done well when meeting other dogs while here and would like for that playtime with them to go on forever it seems. She came to us as a stray and she has been able to even gain some weight since her arrival, now weighing 50.70 pounds! Come and meet sweet Carrie Underwood for more information! Her fee is waived!

The normal fee schedule is as follows: Dogs/puppies, $80; cats/kittens, $65; PetSmart only, cats/kittens, $20.

All adoptions take place during business hours.

Doja (A282148) is looking for a second-chance at love! She thought she found love before, only to be back here again, through no fault of her own. Her previous owner experienced a major life change that unfortunately meant she had to be returned to the shelter. She has experience in couch cuddles, is housetrained, knows sit, she LOVES and NEEDS structure and is a sweet girl who knows there is someone out there looking for her, and all of her quirkiness — like not liking her feet to be touched. This pretty brindle girl is 66.80 pounds and a beautifully goofy, sweet German Shepherd mix. She is 3 years old and is ready to spend the rest of her years with you, making happy memories with and for you! For more information, please come and meet her in person. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. Her fee is waived!

Want to help, but you aren’t ready to adopt? How about volunteering? We are looking for long-term volunteers willing and able to give of their time ideally weekly, for let’s say … forever? If you are only looking for short-term hours or a certain amount of hours for school service, community service project, special interest or others, please come see us this day, too. For those only needing short-term or limited hours, our volunteer program may not be for you, but we have other options available. We can tell you this for certain … ICAS volunteers are THE best and we can’t do what we do without them.

Meet Murray (A288350)! This playful guy came to us from less than desirable circumstances and is ready for forever with his very own family! He is 3 years old and while he came to us underweight, he has already put on 5 pounds, now weighing 41 pounds! He is ready for a life “off the chain,” as that was how we found him. If you can give him all the love and care, he can give you forever! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children with all of our dogs prior to adoption. Come and meet this adorable mastiff mix in person to learn more about him! His fee is waived!

The Books & Buddies reading program is now running. No appointment is necessary. Reading times are from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Bring a book or borrow one from the shelter and grab a stool.

The Books & Buddies guidelines are:

Brian (A288397) came to us as a stray after his finder called animal control when they discovered him on a leash, wrapped around a pole. He is a little scared being here after his adventure, but he is getting used to all the happenings here! He is a little underweight at 35 pounds and is working to increase that number on the scale! He is estimated at 1 year of age and this little cutie is ready for his forever home. Sweet Brian is excited to find his family and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. He is still working on leash manners, and he knows the perfect family for him is going to be patient and show him all the things he needs to be the best good boy! His fee is waived!

Children of all ages and adults are welcome to read.

Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do not put fingers in the kennels.

Do not run or make loud noises around the animals.

Meet Quentin (A288344)! This adorable 1 year, 6 month old found his way to us as a stray! And at 63 pounds, this boxer mix is oh so precious! Quentin is ready for his forever and would love to put the stray life behind him. Although he doesn't seem to like things going over his head, he does love praise and treats! We encourage potential adopters to go slow with him, allowing him to warm up. He is a smart and friendly dog, and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. His fee is waived!

Sit sideways to the dog kennels when reading.

One person can be reading in the cat room at a time.

Readers must track their own service hours. Any staffer can sign off on service hours.

To become a volunteer, a foster owner or both, visit co.iredell.nc.us/149/animal-services-control, call the volunteer coordinator at 704-878-5424, ext. 3507, or stop by the shelter for an application from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Grant (A288378) happened upon his finder's home and just would not leave, what can we say… he liked it there! They did keep him safe until an Animal Control Officer could get him picked up and brought to the shelter. This super sweet boy is a mastiff mix and is estimated at 2 years of age. He has done great for all his exams and weighs 56 pounds. This little cutie was already neutered, so we know he was someone's furbaby at one time, but with no microchip there was no way to determine who that may have been. SOOO… he is now ready for his forever family to find him and make sure that he never has to go on the stray road ever again! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. His fee is waived!

Fostering is a great way to get the animals out of the shelter for a reprieve and a great opportunity to get them in front of potential adopters they wouldn’t see while being in the shelter.

Fosters are true lifesavers in providing the tender loving care that the cats and kittens so desperately need for the animals’ best possible outcome.

The shelter doesn’t want the fosters to have to provide for the basic care items needed to care for the animals. To donate, the shelter’s address is 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

As for size of dry kitten food, 3.15- or 6.3-pound bags are easiest for fosters to handle.

Animal Services also holds drive-thru rabies clinics from 6-7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The fee is $5, cash only.

During February, the shelter is offering rabies vaccines for $1 every Thursday. Shots are given from noon to 5 p.m. and no appointment is necessary. Limit two per household while supplies last.

For information, call the shelter at 704-878-5424.
