Iredell dogs, cat looking for their forever homes

Are you ready for a new pet in your life? All of these animals are available for adoption at Iredell County Animal Services, 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

Ace (A287662) is a sweet boy and he absolutely loves people! He walks great on a leash, is thought to be housebroken and he is so ready to find his forever! He loves to jump and he also loves to just chill near his human, enjoying some “down” time. This sweet and happy 5-year-old came to us as a stray and he weighs 33 pounds. Ace is often used as a greeter dog here at the shelter to help assess the behavior in other canines, which for him means he gets along with his peers wonderfully. Of course, we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. His is ready to go to his forever home and make his forever family smile, just he makes us smile here at ICAS! His fee is waived.

All this week’s pets have been spayed or neutered and are looking for their forever homes. Come and meet them.

Autumn (A288211) found her way here as a stray, she is estimated at 3 years of age and she is all smiles just thinking about her forever home. This sweet girl walks great on a leash and gives paw! She weighs around 55 pounds and she is a friendly pupper! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. For more information on Autumn, please visit the shelter in person.

All adoptions include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines and microchip. Business hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Access from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday is by appointment.

Olivia (A287723) has such the sweet face, and we can share with you that she also has such a sweet personality to match. She found her way to us as a stray and has now been here for 26 days. We aren’t quite sure why she continues to get overlooked when families come to visit, so maybe we can change that for her. This friendly and beautiful girl is estimated at 1 year, 4 months old and weighs 45 pounds. She walks great on a leash and keeps a neat kennel. This sweet girl is ready for her chance at being forever family! Is that with you? Come and meet her in person for more information! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. Her fee is waived!

For current adoption specials, visit the shelter in person as these change frequently.

Finley (A288213) found his way here as a stray and he is ready for a life of family and forever. He is a little overweight at 79.9 pounds, and he is simply adorable! He was already neutered when he was found, so we know he was somebody’s baby at one time, and was even microchipped. But his previous family could not be found and no one ever came for him. This handsome setter retriever mix is estimated at 4 years of age and he is ready to start his next chapter! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption. You have to meet this big ole’ sweet boy who LOVES squeeze cheese! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption.

The normal fee schedule is as follows: Dogs/puppies, $80; cats/kittens, $65; PetSmart only, cats/kittens, $20.

All adoptions take place during business hours.

Zeke (A288297) is estimated at 10 months of age and was a lucky boy while he was a stray to happen across his finder’s home, who made sure to keep him safe. After spending the night with her, since the shelter was closed, we were able to learn that he is a good boy, super friendly and seems to be housebroken! This 44 pound Australian Shepherd/cattle dog/collie mix is a beautiful little guy who is now looking for his forever home! While we know he got along with his finder’s dog (her dog wasn’t ready to share his space, we get it!), we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. Please ask to meet him. He is not in regular adoption right now, as we are doing repairs! For more information on Zeke, please come in person to the shelter.

Sweet Bramble (A288302) is enjoying his lazy Sunday to just lounge and relax, while Animal Care Tech Skylar works around him. And she doesn’t mind the supervision from such a cutie! This 3-year-old is looking for his forever and is hoping his family will find him soon. He is FIV+ and he knows his family will understand that this immunodeficiency virus is not transferable to humans and that he can live a long and healthy life when he receives the TLC that all pets need! This 11.50 pound puuuurfect boy is such a stunner! For more information, please come meet him in person.

Want to help, but you aren’t ready to adopt? How about volunteering? We are looking for long-term volunteers willing and able to give of their time ideally weekly, for let’s say … forever? If you are only looking for short-term hours or a certain amount of hours for school service, community service project, special interest or others, please come see us this day, too. For those only needing short-term or limited hours, our volunteer program may not be for you, but we have other options available. We can tell you this for certain … ICAS volunteers are THE best and we can’t do what we do without them.

Scrappy (A287672) is 2 years old and came to us after his owner experienced a major life change. He is a sweet boy who deserves the best of life for the rest of his life and, since coming here to ICAS, he has worked hard to put on some much needed weight, weighing just over 44 pounds! He loves to get out with staff and volunteers to walk, and just be a dog! He does great both on a leash and for all of his exams! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption! Please come and meet Scrappy… he is not only handsome, but he’s super friendly! His fee is waived!

  • Children of all ages and adults are welcome to read.
  • Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Do not put fingers in the kennels.

Are you like us and like to walk a bit and then plop to rest? If so, we have the companion for you who will NOT judge, as he likes to do the same! Meet Carlyle (A287981)! This 2-year-old cutie is ready for his family and he is willing to give all his love to them forever! He is super sweet, very friendly and walks great on a leash. This 55 pound cutie came to us as a result of a call from a concerned citizen who found him tied to a mailbox. They knew we would keep him safe and work to find his forever. So, let’s do just that and find Carlyle his family! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption.

  • Do not run or make loud noises around the animals.
  • Sit sideways to the dog kennels when reading.
  • One person can be reading in the cat room at a time.
  • Readers must track their own service hours. Any staffer can sign off on service hours.

Maggie (A287496) is still here and we aren’t sure why! She is a medium size dog, weighing 44 pounds and she is such a sweetie. She came to us as a stray and this beautiful Siberian husky mix is estimated at 1 year of age. Maggie has done so well for her exams and for all of her enrichment! She is looking for her forever family, she knows that they are out there and she just knows that they will understand all of her husky ways! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption! Please come and meet this pretty girl in person, you will fall in love!

To become a volunteer, a foster owner or both, visit co.iredell.nc.us/149/animal-services-control, call the volunteer coordinator at 704-878-5424, ext. 3507, or stop by the shelter for an application from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Fostering is a great way to get the animals out of the shelter for a reprieve and a great opportunity to get them in front of potential adopters they wouldn’t see while being in the shelter.

Fosters are true lifesavers in providing the tender loving care that the cats and kittens so desperately need for the animals’ best possible outcome.

The shelter doesn’t want the fosters to have to provide for the basic care items needed to care for the animals. To donate, the shelter’s address is 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

As for size of dry kitten food, 3.15- or 6.3-pound bags are easiest for fosters to handle.

Animal Services also holds drive-thru rabies clinics from 6-7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The fee is $5, cash only.

For information, call the shelter at 704-878-5424.

Want to learn about the T-N-R (Trap-Neuter-Release) program? The shelter will host a workshop on Feb. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Iredell County Public Library, 201 N. Tradd St., Statesville. For information, call 980-434-3982 or email icasvolunteer55@gmail.com.
