Finley (A288213) found his way here as a stray and he is ready for a life of family and forever. He is a little overweight at 79.9 pounds, and he is simply adorable! He was already neutered when he was found, so we know he was somebody’s baby at one time, and was even microchipped. But his previous family could not be found and no one ever came for him. This handsome setter retriever mix is estimated at 4 years of age and he is ready to start his next chapter! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption. You have to meet this big ol’ sweet boy who LOVES squeeze cheese! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption.

Hello… I’m Johnny Cash (A288165). Much like the “Man in Black,” “I’ve Been Everywhere” as a stray and now “I Walk the Line” to find my forever home and family. I am nervous being in my kennel and I’m not quite sure of what to do in here, but I do LOVE being out, with people and apparently I like being talked to like a baby! I tested with another dog and we got along great! Of course, I would like to meet other dogs who may be in the home before my family takes me there, to make sure that we get along first. I am estimated at 1 year, 6 months, they think I am a German Shepherd Lab mix, and I weigh just over 53 pounds. I am ready for my family to find me, fall in love with me and take their time getting to know me… I don’t have the “Folsom Prison Blues,” but I sure would love to be in my very own home soon!

Carrie Underwood (A288144) knows that ICAS is just her “Temporary Home” after finding her way here as a stray. She is looking for her “Ever Ever After” and this 44.5 pound brindle Australian cattle dog and collie mix is letting “Jesus Take the Wheel” on helping her find her perfect family! She is a “Good Girl” who is still trying to figure everything out while here and lose some of her nervousness, this can be a scary place after all. She is estimated at 1 year and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. We know that her time here with us won’t be “Wasted” when she leaves with her forever and hopefully she will remember her time before her family life as “Just a Dream!” Carrie Underwood’s fee is waived!
Want to help, but you aren’t ready to adopt? How about volunteering? We are looking for long-term volunteers willing and able to give of their time ideally weekly, for let’s say … forever? If you are only looking for short-term hours or a certain amount of hours for school service, community service project, special interest or others, please come see us this day, too. For those only needing short-term or limited hours, our volunteer program may not be for you, but we have other options available. We can tell you this for certain … ICAS volunteers are THE best and we can’t do what we do without them.
Doja (A282148) is looking for a second-chance at love for this Valentine’s Day and every day thereafter! She thought she found love before, only to find herself back here again, through no fault of her own. Her previous owner experienced a major life change, that unfortunately meant she had to be returned to the shelter. She has experience in couch cuddles, she is housetrained, she knows sit, she LOVES and NEEDS structure and she is a sweet girl who knows there is someone out there looking for her, and all of her quirkiness. Quirks like not liking her feet to be touched… This pretty brindle girl is 66.80 pounds and a beautifully goofy, sweet German Shepherd mix. She is 3 years old and she is ready to spend all the rest of her years with you, making happy memories with and for you! For more information, please come and meet her in person. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption.
The Books & Buddies reading program is now running. No appointment is necessary. Reading times are from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Bring a book or borrow one from the shelter and grab a stool.
The Books & Buddies guidelines are:
Children of all ages and adults are welcome to read.
Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Do not put fingers in the kennels.
Drax (A275943) found his way here as a stray and he was here originally in January of 2023 and was adopted, however when we tried contacting the information on his tag, no one came to claim him. Now he is in adoption and he is a BIG boy, as he came back to the shelter slightly overweight. After being here for a little bit and being placed on a feeding regimen, he has already lost 5 pounds, now weighing just under 99 pounds! Drax still thinks he is a little guy, as he was when he was here the first time, because he is just as playful and bouncy. He doesn’t realize that he has grown, a LOT! He is thought to be a Rottweiler mix and he is GORGEOUS! His family is going to know how to handle such a big boy with the playful energy he has and help him to learn to harness that energy correctly. Please come meet him in person if you would like more information on Drax! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs, prior to adoption.
Do not run or make loud noises around the animals.
One person can be reading in the cat room at a time.
Brian (A288397) came to us as a stray after his finder called animal control when they discovered him on a leash, wrapped around a pole. He is a little scared being here after his adventure, but he is getting used to all the happenings here! He is a little underweight at 35 pounds and is working to increase that number on the scale! He is estimated at 1 year of age and this little cutie is ready for his forever home. Sweet Brian is excited to find his family and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. He is still working on leash manners, and he knows the perfect family for him is going to be patient and show him all the things he needs to be the best good boy!
Readers must track their own service hours. Any staffer can sign off on service hours.
Meet Quentin (A288344)! This adorable 1-year, 6-month-old found his way to us as a stray! And at 63 pounds, this boxer mix is oh so precious! Quentin is ready for his forever and would love to put the stray life behind him. He just moved up to adoption and we are still learning about this cutie! We do know he is super friendly and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs prior to adoption. That sweet face!
To become a volunteer, a foster owner or both, visit co.iredell.nc.us/149/animal-services-control, call the volunteer coordinator at 704-878-5424, ext. 3507, or stop by the shelter for an application from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
Fostering is a great way to get the animals out of the shelter for a reprieve and a great opportunity to get them in front of potential adopters they wouldn’t see while being in the shelter.
Fosters are true lifesavers in providing the tender loving care that the cats and kittens so desperately need for the animals’ best possible outcome.
This precious and loving kitty so loves spending time with Animal Care Tech Skylar, and that feeling is mutual! He got the spa treatment today with his brushing, and he totally lived for every second of it! And oh my gosh, we did too… so sweet! Pepper (A288670) came to ICAS as an owner surrender after his owner experienced a major life change. Five-year-old Pepper is a sweetie and lived with his cat sister, so we know he did great with her! His sister found her forever, now it’s his turn. We don’t have information on how he does with dogs, however we can tell you his interaction with everyone while here has been so precious and pretty much looks like his interaction here! This loving and handsome 10-pound furbaby is ready for forever. Please come meet him in person! Such a sweetheart!
The shelter doesn’t want the fosters to have to provide for the basic care items needed to care for the animals. To donate, the shelter’s address is 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.
As for size of dry kitten food, 3.15- or 6.3-pound bags are easiest for fosters to handle.
Animal Services also holds drive-thru rabies clinics from 6-7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The fee is $5, cash only.
During February, the shelter is offering rabies vaccines for $1 every Thursday. Shots are given from noon to 5 p.m. and no appointment is necessary. Limit two per household while supplies last.
For information, call the shelter at 704-878-5424.
