Are you ready for a new pet in your life? All of these animals are available for adoption at Iredell County Animal Services, 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.
All this week’s pets have been spayed or neutered and are looking for their forever homes. Come and meet them.
Doja (A282148) is looking for a second chance after she thought she found a home before, only to come back here again, when her previous owner experienced a major life change. That unfortunately meant she had to be returned to the shelter. She has experience in couch cuddles, she is housetrained, she knows sit, down and walks at a “loose heel” and is a friendly dog! This pretty brindle German Shepherd mix is 64.60 pounds and she both loves and needs structure in her daily routine, which looks different here at the shelter than in a home. Doja is 3 years old and she is ready to spend the rest of her years with her forever family, and forever can’t get here soon enough since she has now been back at the shelter for 83 days. For more information, please come and meet her in person. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. Her fee is waived AND her adopter will receive two FREE private training sessions with Highland Canine Training.
All adoptions include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines and microchip. Business hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Access from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday is by appointment.
Precious Grant (A288378) has now been here 79 days and while he may not show the “real Grant” when you walk past his kennel, we do hope you ask to have staff get him out to meet him! We can tell you that when you do ask to get him out of the kennel, he is different dog and the “real Grant” comes through!!! The REAL Grant who truly is such a sweet and friendly dog! He knows sit, paw and is apparently housebroken! He play bows when he walks past other dogs in their kennels, he walks great on a leash and he is such a gentle treat taker!! This friendly and adorably handsome boy is thought to be 2 years of age and he came here as a stray. He is a beautiful brindle with that signature flop ear that is Grant specific!! He weighs 58 pounds and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. For more information on this sweet boy, please come visit him in person. His fee is waived AND his adopter will receive two free private training sessions with Highland Canine Training!!
For current adoption specials, visit the shelter in person as these change frequently.
The normal fee schedule is as follows: Dogs/puppies, $80; cats/kittens, $65; PetSmart only, cats/kittens, $20.
All adoptions take place during business hours.

Want to help, but you aren’t ready to adopt? How about volunteering? We are looking for long-term volunteers willing and able to give of their time, ideally weekly, for let’s say … forever? If you are only looking for short-term hours or a certain amount of hours for school service, community service project, special interest or others, please come see us, too. For those only needing short-term or limited hours, our volunteer program may not be for you, but we have other options available. We can tell you this for certain … ICAS volunteers are THE best and we can’t do what we do without them.
Meet Beethoven (A290585)!! This cutie has at least one thing in common with his namesake and it’s not that he composed Moonlight Sonata! But, we bet he could if he had to! Like that Beethoven, THIS Beethoven is also hearing impaired. For a dog at a noisy shelter, this means he sleeps right through lots, which can be a real advantage while here. However, being a stray or one who is left out in the elements, there is no advantage. Beethoven is looking for his forever family who is going to make sure that neither of those are his options again, and he so deserves that! This 1-year, 8-month-old mix is a handsome boy and weighs 45.20 pounds. We have limited information on him, but he keeps a neat kennel and like we said, gets great sleep while here. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption, and because of his impairment, recommend slow movements so as to not startle him. He’ll get used to his family and surroundings and will gain comfort in them both! For more information, please come and meet him in person at the shelter!

Not the greatest picture, but it still shows without question just how cute Goose (A290418) is!! Meet Goose the dog! He came to us when he was found behind a busy shop, then brought here to make sure he was safe. He did have a wound to his ear and right side of his neck, for which he has been treated while here and is healing nicely! Goose does such a great job for all of his treatments and exams!! He deserves a doggie sucker!!! Lots of them! This 2-year-old, 66-pound German shorthaired pointer mix is such a good boy to have gone through all that and still be the sweetheart he is! Now, for him to find his forever family to heal his heart from having been on his own for who knows how long! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. For more information on Goose the handsome dog, please visit the shelter in person.
Fostering is a great way to get the animals out of the shelter for a reprieve and a great opportunity to get them in front of potential adopters they wouldn’t see while being in the shelter.
Fosters are true lifesavers in providing the tender loving care that the cats and kittens so desperately need for the animals’ best possible outcome.
This super sweet girl is June (A290479) and she is ready for her forever home after finding herself here as a stray when she was discovered wandering down the road in a local neighborhood. Her finder kept her safe and enjoyed her friendly company until our ACO could arrive on scene to escort her to the shelter to help her find her family! Sadly, June never had a family come for her so she is now looking for one! She is estimated at 5 years of age, is possibly a setter retriever mix, weighs 54.30 pounds and had to be someone's baby at some point, as she was already spayed! She was not, however microchipped. This super friendly girl is food motivated and is easy to both leash and walk! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. We are limited on what we do know about her, given she was a stray. To meet her or to inquire more about her, please come in person to the shelter.
The shelter doesn’t want the fosters to have to provide for the basic care items needed to care for the animals. To donate, the shelter’s address is 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.
As for size of dry kitten food, 3.15- or 6.3-pound bags are easiest for fosters to handle.
This gorgeous boy is BamBam (A277286)! BamBam is a 3-year-old Norwegian elkhound/spitz mix and he is beautiful!!! His family had to make the hard decision to rehome BamBam when they could no longer care for him. BamBam had been with his family for his entire life prior to coming here and his previous family let us know that he is good with other dogs and children (we still recommend meet and greets with both prior to adoption to ensure a great fit for all), he is completely housebroken, he knows sit and he loves to be active! He will make a great walking or running partner, however he will also make a great couch buddy! He is versatile like that! BamBam is friendly, super sweet and super confused why he is here and he sure would love to find his forever family soon to make it all better!!! For more information on this handsome 45.10-pound cutie, please visit the shelter in person.
Animal Services also holds drive-thru rabies clinics from 6-7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The fee is $5, cash only.
The clinics will not be held in April but animal control is partnering with the Rescue Ranch, 1424 Turnersburg Highway, for a free rabies clinic on April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. The one-year vaccines will be available while supplies last. All cats must be in carriers and we remind you to limit only one cat per carrier. While there is no limit on the number of vaccines a household or pet owner can receive during this clinic, please note that we will administer the available vaccinations while supplies last.
