Iredell shelter offering $10 adoption on all dogs

Are you ready for a new pet in your life? All of these animals are available for adoption at Iredell County Animal Services, 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

Meet Blondie (A292407)! She came in as a stray, as this 2 year old was found after she and several other dogs were found abandoned and brought here safely by animal control. Blondie is a friendly, yet skittish girl which is understandable given her circumstances of coming to be here. She weighs 44 pounds and this German Shepherd mix is ready for forever with her family! For more information on this sweet girl, please come and meet her in person. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption!

All of this week’s pets have been spayed or neutered and are looking for their forever homes. Come and meet them.

This cutie is Rango (A291514) and he is 2 years old! He walks great on a leash with very little pulling! Rango is also very easily corrected with even the most minor of leash correction! Great job! This friendly boy loves riding in cars, jumping right in when it is time and he LOVES to have his head out the window! He is going to need a home with no cats and hey, we all have our preferences and that is his! Rango is such a handsome boy and this 54 pound sweetie is ready for forever! We always recommend meet and greets prior to adoption with other dogs and children. Please come to the shelter in person for more information. His fee is waived!

All adoptions include spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines and microchip. Business hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Access from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday is by appointment.

This handsome boy is Horton (A289579) and he is our long-timer, now having been at the shelter for 104 days! He is estimated at 4 years of age and he is housebroken, takes treats ever so gently, he knows sit and gives one awesome howdy! He is a big boy at 89 pounds! He walks great on a leash and is such a sweet boy! He does great with people and crowds, having proven that at our Open House in the spring with more than 430 guests! He is a super sweet boy and will need a home with no cats, and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. His fee is waived and his adopter will receive two FREE sessions with Highland Canine Training. For more information, please visit the shelter in person.

For current adoption specials, visit the shelter in person as these change frequently.

The shelter is near capacity for dogs and to help clear the shelter, adoptions for dogs are currently $10.

Sgt. Wu (A291920) is still here! He’s little, he’s cute and he is a sweetheart! Sgt. Wu came to us as a stray, when he was found abandoned in a locked camper. That part of his life is over and now he is hoping for the best life for the rest of it!! He is a low-rider, as you can see by those little legs and he does pull some when walking. He’s got places to go! He is estimated at 2 years of age and Sgt. Wu weighs 38.20 pounds and while he was named after a character who seems to have the ability to transform into a werewolf, we can assure you that is not the case with THIS Wu! Please come and meet him in person for more information! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. His fee is waived!

The normal fee schedule is as follows: Dogs/puppies, $80; cats/kittens, $65; PetSmart only, cats/kittens, $20.

Hi Whitman (A292735)! This handsome boy is ready for adoption and for his forever family to find him! Whitman came to us as a stray and while we don’t know much about him, we do know he is estimated at approximately 1 year of age, is maybe a husky/terrier mix and weighs 37.70 pounds. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. For more information on Whitman, please visit us in person.

Want to help, but you aren’t ready to adopt? How about volunteering? We are looking for long-term volunteers willing and able to give of their time, ideally weekly, for let’s say … forever? If you are only looking for short-term hours or a certain amount of hours for school service, community service project, special interest or others, please come see us, too. For those only needing short-term or limited hours, our volunteer program may not be for you, but we have other options available. We can tell you this for certain … ICAS volunteers are THE best and we can’t do what we do without them.

This little 1-year, 7-month-old cutie is Garner (A291804), named after the busy road on which he was found! He is food motivated and as an added bonus with that motivation, has the BEST piggy snorts out there! We challenge you to find better ones without finding the actual piggy! He also LOVES to snuggle, he walks great on a leash and is a playful boy! He did great when meeting another dog here and greeted the other dog with a play bow and was ready to play! This 52 pound cutie is now ready for his family to find him and make him part of their lives forever. We believe him to be housebroken based on the neat kennel he keeps!! Please come in person to the shelter and meet this sweet boy for more information. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. His fee is waived!

The Books & Buddies reading program is now running. No appointment is necessary. Reading times are from noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Bring a book or borrow one from the shelter and grab a stool.

The Books & Buddies guidelines are:

Children of all ages and adults are welcome to read.

Children 15 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do not put fingers in the kennels.

Do not run or make loud noises around the animals.

Sit sideways to the dog kennels when reading.

One person can be reading in the cat room at a time.

We give you Asia (A291860)! This little cutie has great energy! She is a happy girl and she warms up to her humans quickly and dogs even quicker! Asia is thought to be 1 year, 7 months old and this 38 pound stunner is ready for her forever! She does great with other dogs, as she is both super friendly and playful with them! She pulls a little on a leash at first and is working to hone her skills in that area with already vast improvement. She is food motivated which will make her continued training easy! Please come and meet her in person for more information. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. Her fee is WAIVED!

Readers must track their own service hours. Any staffer can sign off on service hours.

Seems Dante (A292650) has reached his peak of being here and now wants to find his family! This cute German Shepherd is thought to be 2 years old and came in as a stray. Dante weighs 56.70 pounds and has put on some much needed weight since he arrived at just over 51 pounds. While he seems to be more interested in humans (at least right now while here) than other dogs, we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. Please come and meet this handsome boy in person for more information.

To become a volunteer, a foster owner or both, visit co.iredell.nc.us/149/animal-services-control, call the volunteer coordinator at 704-878-5424, ext. 3507, or stop by the shelter for an application from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Zuko (A291548) is such a sweet boy and loves to get all the attention and love from staff and volunteers alike! This 2 year old somewhat defies the ability to describe how truly sweet he is. Zuko walks great, is likely housebroken, knows sit and is such the gentle treat taker! Please come and meet this gray cutie in person for more information. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. His fee is waived!

This sweet girl is Princess (A287986) and she is 8 years old. She was surrendered to the shelter when her owner fell upon some times that would not allow her to remain in their care. She is nervous being here and this just isn’t home. She is looking for the family who will understand the need for going slow and who will be patient with her, as she is such a sweet girl, just nervous. She was in a home with other dogs and we always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. If you think you can give this sweet girl a chance at the best life and can allow her the time to do just that at her pace, please come and meet her in person for more information. She weighs 16.90 pounds and is that little dog that many are looking for. This older girl deserves that second chance and we just know she is going to make the best furfamily member to her forever! Please come see us in person for more information on Princess.

Fostering is a great way to get the animals out of the shelter for a reprieve and a great opportunity to get them in front of potential adopters they wouldn’t see while being in the shelter.

Fosters are true lifesavers in providing the tender loving care that the cats and kittens so desperately need for the animals’ best possible outcome.

Mya (A291015) is so ready for her family to find her. If you are interested in adopting her, NOW IS THE TIME! She is super stressed being here and she needs to find her forever! This sweet girl came to us as a result of an eviction situation. We can tell you she loves cuddles and we love that she is always willing to share cuddles with us when we need one! This super sweet girl walks great on a leash with a martingale collar, she is very responsive and does great with her training! Mya is 2 years old and weighs 47.30 pounds, and she is a true sweetheart. She is definitely used to being in a home and you can tell she is ready for her family to find her and provide her with her very own for forever! To learn more about Mya, please come and meet this friendly booper in person by visiting the shelter! We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption.

The shelter doesn’t want the fosters to have to provide for the basic care items needed to care for the animals. To donate, the shelter’s address is 430 Bristol Drive, Statesville.

As for size of dry kitten food, 3.15- or 6.3-pound bags are easiest for fosters to handle.

Abby (A268382) wanted to remind everyone that she is still here and still looking for her forever family! She is our old girl at 8 years old and she is in urgent need of finding her forever after being here for 75 days! She is friendly, totally housebroken and ready for forever! She loves to chill and relax, while you do your work! She is going to make someone the best work from home partner ever, if that’s your work gig! She’s okay if you don’t work from home too, she doesn’t mind waiting for you until you come home from work! This sweet girl weighs 59 pounds, she walks great on a leash and she loves treats!! Don’t judge her, she may need to cut back some on the treats! Please come and meet this sweet girl in person for more information. We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption. Her fee is waived AND her adopter will receive two free sessions with Highland Canine Training!

Animal Services also holds drive-thru rabies clinics from 6-7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. The fee is $5, cash only.

For information, call the shelter at 704-878-5424.
