Kaieteur News- Dem boys seh Guyana waiting pon de census to find out if de population grow or shrink. But while dem counting people, dogs and cats done tek over!

Every corner yuh turn, one skinny dog limping cross de road or one pregnant cat peepin’ from a drain. Dem animals multiplying faster than election promises.

Dem boys seh de stray animal population might soon be de only thing in Guyana growing fuh sure. At this rate, dogs gon start forming village councils and cats gon be applying fuh house lots.

People deh worrying if more people lef de country than come in. But what fuh worry when stray dogs already setting up base in de city and de countryside? One lil puppy from last year done have puppies dis year. And de mother cat from de corner shop now got grandchildren. Is generations of four-legged squatters living rent free.

Dem boys seh de government still can’t release de census. But de stray animals don’t need no census. Just walk down Regent Street or pass by Stabroek and yuh gon see a whole new voting bloc forming — Dog Party and Cat Coalition.

Is time fuh serious action. De government need to launch a national neutering and spaying programme. Just fuh de animals.

Or better yet, dem boys seh parents must stop giving bicycle and toy gun for Christmas and start giving a pet instead. Let lil Johnny tek care of Fluffy and Rover instead of cussing dem and pelting dem with biscuit paper.

Dis is not just bout aesthetics. Is bout public health, decency, and how we treating creatures dat depending on we. If we cyan tek care of de weakest among we, then what kinda society we building?

Dem boys seh, if leff so, is not man gon inherit de earth in Guyana — is de strays. And when dat happen, is dem dogs gon be voting and dem cats gon be counting de ballot.

Tek warning! Spay and neuter now, before de meow and bow-bow tek over parliament. Or have they already done so… judging from the sound of things.
