The Turvill brothers pose with a pooch in front of their family’s Madison home on Sep. 25, 1897.
This State Journal report ran on the front page March 13, 1897:
Thus far, about 20 persons have paid their dog tax and secured the little brass tag which will save their pet from annihilation April 1.
Elsewhere, an official notice is printed that all dogs without these tags will be killed on or after April 1 under the provisions of the new city ordinance.
