THREE FIREFIGHTERS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. HERE’S JIM KEITHLEY FROM JAY TONIGHT. “WHAT WAS A THREE-STORY, SIX-UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING AT 6 JEWELL STREET IN DOWNTOWN JAY IS NOW JUST A PILE OF RUBBLE AFTER FIRE BROKE OUT JUST BEFORE TEN O’CLOCK LAST NIGHT.” TEN PEOPLE LIVED HERE, AND EVERYONE DID GET OUT. SEVERAL PETS WERE LOST IN THE FIRE AND THREE FIREFIGHTERS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. MORE THAN 60 FIREFIGHTERS FROM EIGHT DEPARTMENTS HELPED BATTLE THE FIRE. A MOTHER WHO LIVED ON THE THIRD FLOOR WITH HER 9- YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER SAID THEY HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE NEIGHBORS FIGHTING AND THEN PEOPLE SCREAMING FIRE – GET OUT. “WE GRABBED OUR TWO LITTLE DOGS BUT I COULDN’T – IT WENT UP QUICK – AND I COULDN’T GET BACK IN TO GET OUR SENIOR DOG.” THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE IS INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE.
