K-9 Police Officer Finds Missing Toddler Safe In Woods, He Followed The Scent From Blanket

The DeLand Police Department is celebrating the heroics of K-9 Midnight after the dog played a crucial role in locating a missing 3-year-old boy, who had wandered into the dense woods near his home. The young child was reported missing on a Friday morning, prompting an immediate response from the police department and Midnight, led by Corporal Damon Clark.

To start the search, the boy’s mother provided Midnight with a blanket to capture the child’s scent. With determination, Midnight and Clark ventured into the swampy woods behind the boy’s home. Clark shared that he approaches each search with confidence, enthusiasm, and positivity, driven by the belief that Midnight can sense his emotions.

Midnight, a 3-year-old black lab known for his energy and tracking abilities, pulled Clark through the thick vegetation without hesitation. About 45 minutes into their search, Midnight succeeded in finding the boy. Clark recalled, “Once he found the little boy he just started licking him,” highlighting the gentle nature of the encounter despite the challenging terrain.

Thankfully, the child was found unharmed and was swiftly reunited with his grateful family. Clark, a parent himself, expressed immense relief at the positive outcome. This successful mission marks the fifth person Midnight and Clark have located together. Beyond search and rescue, Midnight also assists in narcotics detection, motivated by his favorite reward—a shiny green tennis ball.
