Ian Mendoza believes the burglary was targeted, noting that French bulldogs are a high-value breed.
KATY, Texas — A Katy family is devastated after their three beloved French bulldogs were stolen during a break-in.
It happened at an apartment near I-10 and Barker Cypress Road. The incident has left the dog owner, Ian Mendoza, feeling unsafe and heartbroken.
“I'm devastated. I can't believe anything that just happened,” Mendoza said.
He discovered the break-in after returning home around 2 a.m. just over a week ago, finding his apartment door damaged and the inside ransacked.
“When I walked in, I seen all the lights on and all the doors open and everything flipped upside down,” Mendoza said. “And the first thing I want to go check for was my dogs.”
But the apartment was quiet. His three dogs were gone.
The missing pets, Snow, a white French bulldog, Glo, a gray one and Nyla, had been with Mendoza since they were born.
“They were everything to me. They were my everyday life,” he said. “They’re definitely a part of my family.”
Surveillance images captured by a neighbor show a person dressed as a pizza delivery driver approaching the apartment. Another photo shows a man walking away with a dog in hand.
Mendoza believes the burglary was targeted, noting that French bulldogs are a high-value breed.
Along with the dogs, the thieves also took a safe and two firearms. But the loss of the dogs has been the most painful.
“They seen pictures of me. They seen pictures of everybody. They seen just everything in our apartment. This just doesn't feel right. So that's why we decided to leave,” Mendoza said, explaining why he moved out shortly after the break-in.
He is now sharing photos of Snow, Glo and Nyla in hopes that someone will recognize them and help bring them home.
“I don't want anything but my dogs back,” he said.
This incident is under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
