The two dogs that Kayla Nicole once shared with ex-boyfriend Travis Kelce can be a financial handful, but she doesn’t regret taking “full responsibility” for them.
The TV personality, 33, chatted with guest Nazanin Mandi about pet custody arrangements with exes on the May 10 episode of Kayla’s “Pre-Game” podcast. While Nazanin, 38, revealed that she and ex-husband Miguel each have custody of one of their cats, Kayla said that she took on the responsibility of caring for both of her and Travis’ pups, Chauncey Gallagher Kelce The First and Rambo.
“Now how did y’all come to that decision?” Kayla asked. “I have dogs with the previous partner, and I got both the dogs.”
She continued, “I had a dog bill the other day that was 2,000 dollars.” However, Kayla emphasized that she “loves” her “kids.”
“How did you come to that conclusion? Because that’s impressive,” she asked Nazanin again. “That speaks to the relationship you guys still have. That means you guys are in a good, healthy, safe space to be able to make adult decisions.”
Kayla and Travis, 35, called it quits in May 2022 after five years of dating. The pair had previously briefly split for a few months in 2020 amid rumors of infidelity, although Travis denied the speculation at the time.
“This is fake news … a lie … and not why Kayla and I broke up … take all your hatred somewhere else please,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet in August 2020, per TMZ.

Months after they split for good, Travis also addressed rumors that he and Kayla allegedly broke up because he was “too cheap,” calling the reports “crazy.”
“Don’t buy into that s–t. I would never say that I was supporting [her]. She had a very financially stable life and what she was doing in her career,” he said on “The Pivot Podcast” at the time, adding that they lent each other money once in a while to pay for things like food. “I mean, we were in a relationship for five years. A hundred dollars here and a hundred dollars there wasn’t even thought about.”
More than one year after the romance ended, their relationship was thrust into the spotlight again in 2023 as Travis moved on with Taylor Swift. Referring to all the headlines that have connected her to Travis, Kayla recently shared that she’s ready for the day that people “have to stop calling [her] someone’s ex.”
“You sit down and you do an hour-long interview with someone, and the headline is maybe one sentence that you said. Yeah, I was heartbroken and devastated because I went through a breakup and that’s the headline,” she said on Marion Jones and Suzanne Evans’ “Second Wind” podcast on May 6.
Kayla continued, “Like so-and-so’s ex is devastated still and she’s sad and she’s depressed. It’s like, damn, girl, did you listen to anything?”
Though the sports journalist said she took the chatter with a “a grain of salt,” she added that people are eventually “going to have to just let it go.”
“Until then, I’m going to ride this off into the sunset,” Kayla concluded. “I want you all to report on me and the things that I’m doing and not have any correlation or connection to someone in the past because really and truly at the end of the day, if I choose to share my story, it’s because I’m sharing it because I think that someone needs to hear it.”
