A La Verne dog recuperating from a mountain lion attack over the weekend will have to remain at home for 30 days, an official said.
Anytime there’s an interaction between wildlife and dogs, the dog has to be quarantined as a precaution, according to Danny Pena, animal control supervisor at the Inland Valley Humane Society and SPCA. Rabies is a possibility, he added.
The Humane Society found out about the Saturday night attack from a news report, Pena said. They contacted the owner and took a report Tuesday. They also notified the county health department, he said.
Pena couldn’t release specific details such as the location but the closest cross streets are Golden Hills Road and Wheeler Avenue.

The dog’s owner, identified by KABC only as Nicole, told the TV station she let out Holly Jolly, her 93-pound giant schnauzer, on Saturday night. The 3-year-old dog sniffed around the backyard.
“And I’m still watching a movie just hanging out here then all of a sudden she goes back here,” Nicole told KABC.
A Ring camera recorded a mountain lion going after Holly and the dog struggling against the predator.
“We heard her screaming a little. So my husband comes out and he grabs the pool stick, like the pool skimmer,” Nicole said.
Her husband could be heard shouting in the video. Holly managed to get away. The same lion returned about 20 minutes later.
Holly underwent surgery.
