The Lafayette Fire Department responded to a house fire that inured a homeowner and killed two pets.

According to the Lafayette Fire Department, Firefighters responded at 9:24 p.m. Oct. 30 to a 911 call at the 100 block of Charles Drive after neighbors noticed flames coming from a bedroom window, according to a fire department news release.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, first responders were informed that a 69-year-old female was inside, according to the LFD statement.

They conducted search and rescue operations, and the occupant was found inside the smoked-filled house. Emergency crews brought her outside and began providing medical care. Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene, continued care and transported the woman to the hospital.

The LFD said the house sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. Two of the owner’s pets, a dog and a cat, perished in the fire.
