LEESBURG, Ga. – Creating new bonds between furry friends and their future homes. The Lee County Animal Shelter hosts its special pet adoption event.

On one Saturday each month, the Lee County Animal Shelter welcomes potential adopters, offering an opportunity to provide loving forever homes for their adorable fur babies!

“Those that, you know, work long day hours and don’t have a chance to come by during the week. We open up one Saturday a month to let them come here and take a look at the fur baby. Right now, our adoption fees are quite low. The males for a dog are $40. The females are $43.33. Our cats, for the males are $28.33, the females are $23.33. Real reasonable rates,” said Dana Mathis, Lee County Animal Shelter, Lead Kennel Tech.

Dana Mathis, the Lead Kennel Tech at the Lee County Animal Shelter, sheds light on the adoption process, offering valuable insight for those eager to bring a loving pet into their lives.

“We have an adoption application they would fill out. We’d like for them to spend a little bit of time with the animal, make sure it’s a really good fix for them. They would just fill out the application, which takes maybe 20, 30 minutes at the most. And, we do have some available that could go home today. And, if the baby is not available for today, we’ll take it to the vet the next business day and they can pick it up from there,” said Mathis.

Highlighting heartwarming success stories, cuddly cat Krystal and affectionate pups Gracie and Champagne found new loving homes through the adoption process.

Dana emphasizes the significance of adoption over purchasing, sharing valuable insights.

“Well, right now the overpopulation of dogs and cats is tremendous. And, there’s so many that need a home. And, you know, it’s a lot more reasonable to adopt than it is to go out and shop. Because these babies, they realize that you have rescued them. They’re very compassionate and they’re thankful. And, right now, shelters being overcrowded, rescues are overcrowded. To me, it would just make more sense to adopt instead of shop,” said Mathis.
