FARGO — As sweet as a nibble of sugar cane, Cain the German Shepherd cross is ready for a hug, a walk, and a cuddle on the couch just as soon as you are.
The year-or-so old mixed breed came in with 4 Luv of Dog rescue worker Cindy Holtan, who says he’s had to spend the last 300 days since sheltering at an area doggy daycare, thanks to a shortage of foster homes.
The doggy daycare is fun for him, but not ideal to speed up placement in a forever home, since it’s harder for the rescue workers to evaluate how he’ll do in a home setting without actually seeing him in foster first.
However, his disposition and training haven’t suffered at all.
Cain can do all sorts of skills including sit, stay, down, fetch, and drop it.
He’s a bright and obedient dog, with a clear intelligence and an interest in exploring new surroundings.
He’s also extremely playful and very strong, so he’ll need someone to give him walks and other activities that help younger dogs thrive.
Best of all, Cain has a clownish streak, and he gives great gentle hugs.
