LMC sees dip in pet dog licensing | Lucknow News

Lucknow: As the financial year nears end, the LMC has failed to achieve its goal of 100% pet dog licensing. So far, only 4,600 pet dogs were licensed out of an estimated 10,000. This is even lower than last year's 5,200.
Officials cite a lack of awareness and reluctance among pet owners as key reasons for the shortfall. Many residents are unaware that obtaining a licence is mandatory while others intentionally avoid it. Some even oppose the requirement.
Now, LMC has decided to intensify its enforcement measures. Previously, an unlicensed dog-catching drive was conducted only on Saturdays, but now it will take place on weekdays as well.
There are also plans for door-to-door checks to ensure compliance.
“We will soon intensify the drive. Violators will be fined Rs 5,000 per pet dog,” said animal welfare officer Dr Abhinav Verma.
According to LMC regulations, a pet dog licence is issued for Rs 1,000 for foreign breeds and Rs 200 for Indian breeds, only after proof of rabies vaccination and an affidavit confirming adherence to the Dog Control Bylaws of 2003.
