Longtime Noah’s Hope volunteer hangs up dog leash for the final time

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – One of the Noah’s Hope Animal Rescue’s longest-serving volunteers is hanging up the dog leash and retiring from Noah’s Hope.

Wade Swords has been with the non-profit since its start. From trapping sick and injured animals, to transporting rescues to their vet appointments or forever homes, to fostering countless dogs, Swords has been instrumental in the organizations’ efforts to help animals across Siouxland.

“He’s been with me since day 1. We’ve put a lot of miles together on the road,” said Noah’s Hope’s Brenda Iwen. “He’s our trapper, transporter, foster, temperament tester. There’s nothing that Wade hasn’t done in our rescue and he does t well. And he’s always available at the drop of a pen.”

For Swords, it’s all about seeing animals through their journey from their darkest moments at the start of their rescue, to finding their families and forever homes.

“Some of them need that love that they never get, they are strays and they are hurt, they’ve got mange,” said Swords. “It feels good when you watch a dog come out of the pits and come up and get into a good home, it just makes you feel good.”

Swords tells KTIV he’s adopted a few dogs from Noah’s Hope and it’s seeing past rescues happy in their forever families that makes him happiest.
