Multiple dogs on the loose in one Guelph neighbourhood caused “serious” concern for the safety of Canada Post employees this summer.
That’s according to a Canada Post spokesperson, speaking with 570 NewsRadio.
Lisa Liu, media relations representative, said door-to-door mail service had to be suspended and a community mailbox installed in July.
“We can confirm there have been several incidents that has put our delivery agent at risk due to multiple loose dogs,” she said. “This was a serious cause of concern for our delivery agent and door-to-door delivery was temporarily suspended.”
This was all in the Algoma Drive area, in the north end of the city.
Earlier in July, residents in the area were told door-to-door mail delivery would be suspended and they would have to pick up their mail at the Canada Post depot at 250 Woodlawn Rd. W.
A community mailbox has since been installed at 58 Montana Rd.
“We sent a letter to affected customers on July 25, 2024 notifying them of the temporary conversion of their mail delivery to a community mailbox…Items that need a signature and parcels that do not fit in the community mailbox will be carded for pick up at the closest Canada Post location.”
Liu added, when there is a safety risk for employees, it is standard practice to temporarily suspend mail delivery to the specific address or addresses.
Canada Post is reminding all dog-owners to be responsible.
