Chico’s story began on an ordinary day when curiosity got the better of him, leading him to venture far beyond his familiar surroundings. With his keen nose guiding him, Chico roamed further than he ever had before, eventually realizing he had wandered too far and found himself lost. The problem, as he barked to the officers, was that he was the missing individual of interest who had run away from home. This clever canine’s arrival at the police station was both surprising and amusing to the officers on duty.
Sergeant Rusty Martin was the first to welcome the enthusiastic pup. Despite the unusual circumstances, Chico didn’t appear too troubled by his situation. In fact, the fact that he openly identified himself, when most animals would hide, was even less worrying to this courageous canine.
The officers on duty were more than happy to engage with the pooch. Who wouldn’t be? Sergeant Martin recounted the experience to The Dodo, saying, “We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”
Despite their affection, when the cops tried to check for identification, they found none. Chico wore a collar and looked well-cared-for, but his dog tags were missing. Without any immediate way to identify him, the officers were at a bit of a loss. I’d like to pat him myself…

As time passed, Chico seemed to enjoy his time at the station. The officers made sure he felt at home, playing with him and giving him lots of attention. However, when Chico finally decided that playtime was over and he should probably get back home, he politely let himself out the door.
Sergeant Martin wrote in a post on Facebook: “He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search, he was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”
Meanwhile, Chico’s owner, Edward Alvarado, had no idea his furry friend had gone missing. Edward was sleeping when the mischievous pup ran out the gate! The realization that Chico had wandered off came as a shock. Edward had hoped to train Chico as a guard dog for his dad’s store, but it’s evident now that he’s not exactly suitable for the role.
