GONZALES, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Pet Food Bank in Gonzales is desperately seeking donations of dog food, cat food, cat litter and flea prevention items.
Jonathan Henriques, founder of Rescue Alliance, said this year the need for pet food is even greater.
“We normally do about 50 families per month on a slow month. You know, sometimes it’s a, you know, it’s all the way to almost 300 per month,” Henriques said.
With the year just now kicking off, Henriques says the pet food bank is in critical need of donations. Right now, he said the pet food bank has many pending applications, especially as people recover financially from the holidays.
“We’re actually getting more applications and actually less donations coming in. Right now, we are in desperate need of dog food, cat food, wet and dry,” Henriques said.
The application asks for ID, information of the eating habits of the animal, and pictures of the pet, no income requirement. This resource is available to Louisianians in need, and is useful to many families, according to Henriques.
Henriques hopes the community comes together, before it’s too late.
“We don’t help them. They’re more at risk of being surrendered to animal shelters, which across the country are already overcrowded or dying of starvation. And we want to make sure that every pet gets a meal,” Henriques said.
The food bank is asking people to drop off donations at the locations below:
