My family has owned larger dogs (RIP Hershey and Cash) and currently, we have two smaller dogs, a miniature schnauzer and a bulldog schitzu. Lately, my spouse has been hinting around about getting another large-breed dog. When she and the kids are home alone, having a large dog in the house can help with security concerns. Groot is a six-year-old German Shepherd mix.

Groot is not a purebred, but he’s got the markings. He’s a big dog, easily topping 100 pounds and close to 3 feet tall at the shoulder. Don’t let his size intimidate you though, he’s super sweet and playful, choosing toys over treats during his visit to our studios today.

Billings Animal Control brought Groot to the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter about 10 days ago, when he was picked up as a stray. Sadly, his microchip information was not up to date and the shelter was unable to contact his former human(s). A reminder for pet owners to update their chip info anytime they move or change phone numbers.
