OCALA, FL (352today.com) -If your dog slipped out the front door or your cat darted through a loose screen, would they be able to find their way back to you? For Marion County pet parents, there’s an easy way to boost the odds of a happy reunion—microchipping. This week only, Marion County Animal Services (MCAS) is offering free microchips for dogs and cats, giving local families peace of mind and a simple tool that could bring their furry friend home faster.
Why it matters
Each year, hundreds of local pets end up lost. MCAS says microchipping is one of the most effective ways to ensure a quick and safe return home. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, microchipped dogs are more than twice as likely to be reunited with their families, while chipped cats are over 20 times more likely to make it home.
Despite these benefits, many pets in Marion County still don’t have microchips. This free event aims to change that by making microchipping accessible to all local residents — no appointment required.
