KOTA: A 45-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his neighbours in a scuffle over pet dogs in Tathed police station area of Kota district on Saturday morning. Ramraj Meghwal was attacked with sticks and iron rods when he was heading for his home from a field around 9am. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to MBS Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment, said police. The two assailants—Bhagwan Mali and his brother Rakesh Mali—were detained by police later in the day. Meghwal’s body was handed over to his family after a postmortem.
Both the Meghwals and the Malis had pet dogs in their respective houses, and there had been a dispute between them for a long time over the pet dogs, said Beni Prasad, the DSP of the area. Meghwal’s family members told journalists outside the mortuary that when the family’s children leave home for school in the morning, Bhagwan would often set his dog free and frighten them. “A case of murder has been registered against Bhagwan Mali, his brother Rakesh and some other family members,” said Prasad.
