NEED TO KNOW
- An airline passenger is wondering if he handled an in-flight situation with another flyer poorly
- The Reddit user, who admittedly is not a fan of dogs, said he “firmly” asked a woman to put her pet away before he caused “a bigger scene”
- He also said the woman complied, but “would baby talk the dog” the rest of the flight
A traveler is unsure whether or not he was in the wrong after a recent flight left him at odds with a passenger and her pooch.
In a recent Reddit upload, the user asked if he should have handled an in-flight situation differently when a woman seated near him brought out her dog.
The 35-year-old man explained that he was seated in an aisle seat while on a lengthy flight to Los Angeles.
“It was a smaller plane with 2 seats per side. No TV or Movies on this flight and I wasn't paying for WIFI, so just me and my music,” he wrote. “Ten minutes into the flight, the lady (40's) across the aisle was moving around and trying to get in her personal item.”

He continues, “She busts out a dog. In my head, i'm like What the F—. I'm not dog friendly so I tell the lady firmly, you better put the dog back in the carrier.”
However, the woman said her dog felt “cramped in the carrier” and “would rather be in her lap.”
“I tell her to put it away or this can be a bigger scene for you. She reluctantly put it away. The rest of the flight she would baby talk the dog and call me the a——,” the Reddit user wrote, adding that he complained to the flight attendants after they landed.
According to Delta’s pet policy, “some pets can travel as your carry-on,” depending “on their size.“
“Failure to comply with all pet policies and keep your pet in the kennel at all times while in the airport and onboard the aircraft may result in losing the ability to travel with your pet on future flights,” the website reads.
While commenters understood the poster is not a fan of dogs, many suggested alternative ways of handling the situation.

“ESH [Everyone Sucks Here] because that lady should’ve kept her dog in the carrier (which is Delta’s policy), and ‘you better put that dog back in the carrier’ is just not how you talk to other people when you want them to do something for you out of the gate. Next time just call the flight crew and ask them to handle it,” was the top up-voted response.
An individual who agreed wrote, in part, that the user or anyone in his situation could instead, “Get out of your seat and go talk to the flight crew if you dont want the other passenger to know it was you that ratted her out.”
Another wrote, “NTA for asking her to follow the rules. YTA for being a dick about it. Ease up on the self righteousness and life will get a lot more pleasant for you generally.”
The consensus seemed to be that while the poster had every right to ask the woman to put her pet away, he could have done so in a more respectful manner.
