Man Dies After Rescuing Dog from Ocean Waves |

OCEAN BEACH, CA —A man died Sunday after rushing into the surf to save a dog in San Francisco California. Though the dog survived, the man tragically did not.

Witnesses reported the man, fully clothed, entered the water to help a dog in distress. Moments later, he collapsed in the waves for reasons still unknown. Two women on the beach bravely pulled him from the water and began CPR while calling 911.

Rescue crews arrived within minutes. National Park Service ocean rescue personnel initiated CPR, and fire department paramedics followed with advanced life support. The man was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but despite all efforts, he died.

The dog made it out of the water on its own and is unharmed.

First responders urge the public not to enter dangerous surf to perform rescues themselves — even for pets — but to call 911 immediately. Cold water, strong currents, and unpredictable surf conditions make such situations extremely hazardous
