RCMP on Salt Spring Island are investigating a violent altercation between two dogs and their owners that left both men and their pets with injuries.
The incident occurred at Ruckle Park around 4:30 p.m. on April 6. Police say a 46-year-old man reported being bitten by a dog that had broken free from its leash before attacking his own dog. In an attempt to stop the fight, he allegedly used a small knife, inadvertently injuring the other dog owner, a 51-year-old man, who had arrived to intervene.
Both men and both dogs sustained what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. The 51-year-old man was treated at hospital, while friends took his dog to a veterinarian. The 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with weapons-related offences. He was released pending further investigation and potential charges. His knife was seized by police.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.
