Penny was discovered on the streets of Las Vegas, grappling with a severe case of mange. Her condition was dire, with bleeding skin and covered in open sores, scabs, and crusty patches. Rescued on a Wednesday night, Penny was immediately taken under the care of a devoted team, who began treating her with medicated baths and antibiotics. At only a year old, Penny’s mange had left her in pain, making everyday activities like standing or playing extremely difficult. She was quickly taken by Animal Protection Services to The Animal Foundation for urgent treatment.
Mange, caused by tiny mites burrowing into the skin, is treatable, and despite her daunting appearance, Penny started showing positive responses to the treatments she received. In spite of her discomfort, Penny remained affectionate and joyful, weighing in at 17 pounds of love.
Her recovery was expected to take some time, during which she received abundant affection from the team. Soon, she moved to a foster home to continue her recovery. Penny made remarkable progress, regrowing her fur and improving in health, all thanks to the generous contributions towards her care, offering her a new lease on life with a loving family.
She now spends her days energetically playing with her foster family’s children, earning their adoration. Known for her cuddliness, Penny enjoys sleeping next to the family’s slippers and basking in the sunlight. Occasionally, she wears socks to protect her sensitive feet. She’s looking healthier each day.
Gratitude is extended to Penny’s foster family, who have supported her through every step of recovery—every vet visit, dose of medication, and bath. Her progress has been remarkable. Everyone is eager to see her continue to flourish in her new life.
UPDATE: Penny’s foster family decided to adopt her! Her dramatic transformation is nothing short of a miracle. Play the video below to see Penny’s journey and meet her lovely family. Thank you to all involved in Penny’s care.
