OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A win for Marion County students in need and residents looking to become pet owners.
The annual Mission: Bus Brigade is back this year and the Marion County Animal Center is helping in a different way
“Sometimes it might be a discount on pet adoptions,” said Public Relations Specialist for Marion Count, Roger Waddell. “This year it’s free adoptions for anybody who contributes any kind of school supplies toward the bus brigade.”
For more than a decade the Marion County Animal Center has been participating in Mission: Bus Brigade. They take donations through the end of July.
“The animal shelter is promoting this event not only to help the animals get adopted but also to make sure that we get the proper amount of school supplies to help the kids that need that to go back to school.” said Waddell.
Organizers hope, that offering free pet adoptions will encourage more school supply donations.
Barbara Kenney recently dropped some books and pencils off and left with a puppy of her own.
“Go ahead and buy your school supplies you know books, pencils, pens, whatever, and you’ll get like I said a free dog. Plus the fact of the homeless people, you’ll be doing a big favor.” said Kenney.
At the end of the month, they gather all the collected supplies onto a school bus. Then, they will be taken to Marion County students.
