Mangaluru: Following confusion and objections among the public, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has withheld its previous decision that makes licences mandatory for pet dogs in the city.
The MCC, in a bid to control the stray dog menace, had made licences mandatory for pet dogs that people keep in their homes. Accordingly, canine lovers had to submit a copy of their Aadhaar card, two photos of their pet dog, and a no-objection certificate from their neighbours or apartment association, to the city corporation, to obtain a licence.MCC commissioner Anand CL stated in a fresh public notice that the city corporation has received several letters regarding the licence for pet dogs.
“We have noticed the public expressing confusion regarding the issue. The process of drafting rules to obtain registration certificates for dogs is in progress. A public notice will be issued only after a final decision is taken. Hence, people need not be confused about no-objection certificate and documents till rules related to registration certificates for pet dogs are implemented,” the commissioner said. In fact, the MCC had issued a public notice on November 27 through the department of information & public relations, asking people to obtain a licence for pet dogs from the city corporation.
