FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Sanford Children’s now has the region’s first-ever facility dog and it’s named Fox.
The one-year-old golden retriever is different than a therapy dog because it works in a health care setting to provide comfort.
It is educated to assist with patient care, whereas a therapy dog is a personal pet that has been certified to visit the hospital and provide comfort and joy to patients and families.
Facility dogs and their handlers are able to be in a patient’s room during medical procedures.
Fox was made possible through a $200,000 lead gift from NutriSource Pet Foods, a KLN Family Brands company.
