Each week, Maine's Total Coverage features an adoptable pet from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.This week's featured pet is Louie, a 13-year-old mixed-breed dog who loves snuggling and snacks.Matt Blanchard of the Animal Refuge League said even though Louie is on the older side, he still has a lot of pep in his step.”He is a pretty energetic pup for 13. He likes to take long walks. He likes to play with his stuffies,” Blanchard said. “But he also likes to do the kind of, like, old man things like take a nap in the sun.”Louie does not particularly enjoy new people petting him right off the bat, but he does quickly warm up to it.Blanchard said the ARL would prefer to put Louie in a home without cats, and Louie can also be picky about his canine companions. On the days the shelter is open, sign-in sheets will be placed on the front door at 9 a.m. to track the order of arrival of adopters who show up early. People who arrive early are asked to remain on the campus once they sign in.Dog owners who are interested in adopting dogs that are older than 6 months, which includes Louie, are required to have their dogs meet the adoptable pet before they can be brought home.
