MERRIAM, Kan. (KCTV) – A metro area animal shelter took the weekend to hand out free resources to those with outdoor pets as temperatures continue to plummet around Kansas City.
Great Plains SPCA offered community members with “Bring Your Pet Inside” kits. They included a crate for dogs, bedding and more. For cat owners, they provided an outdoor shelter or taught owners how to make one themself.
Organization members told KCTV5 news that while some animals like the cold, most prefer to stay indoors – especially in the frigid temperatures.
“Most of them want to be inside,” said Ashley Flores, Vice President of Operations. “They don’t want to be outside in the cold and they also are social, pack creatures so they want to be around other people and other animals.”
The SPCA had a huge giveaway on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, but community members can still go by the shelter to pick up a kit if they need one. The organization will also continue to accept donations.
