Michael Strahan's parents' held on to a secret pertaining to his childhood pig.

Michael's former Good Morning America co-anchor Sara Haines shared this tidbit on The Weekend View on Saturday, May 24. On the weekend edition of the ABC talk show, Sara along with Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin began by talking about Mariska Hargitay revealing her family secret of her real biological father, which led to a conversation of the ladies telling their own family secrets. After Alyssa-Farah shared her own memories about her parents lying about her childhood dog dying, it inspired Sara to tell the former NFL player's family secret, which she learned when she interviewed his parents Gene Strahan and Louise Strahan .

The broadcast reporter did a sit down interview with his parents, in Houston, Texas and surprised Michael with the footage on-air for his birthday in November 2018. The interview came before Gene’s death in 2020.

“I went to shoot with his parents before his father died because I wanted …to give him time with his parents, as one of five children where they just talked about him,” Sara began.

Sara said while she was talking with his parents, she found out Michael and his siblings had a pet pig when he was little. She added, with a laugh at the end, “They shared with me that they ate the pig.”

Both Alyssa Farah and Joy reacted, with the political commentary saying “Oh My God” and Joy saying “that's horrible.” Sara agreed with the comedian that it was horrible. She continued to tell the story of how she accidentally disclosed that truth to Michael about his pet pig.

“I come back and I’m giving Michael a hard time, as one would, and I joked about the pig,” Sara remarked. “And he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He didn’t know. He didn’t know cause they were all young.”

Sara clarified that Michael had no clue he ate his family pig in response to Sunny's inquiry. She added that something happened to the pig so they weren't able to keep it.

Then Sara said following Michael finding out, he went to contact his mother and “he was like, ‘I had no idea.' And he called his mom,” she said. “And I was like, ‘I didn’t mean to betray the family trust! I just thought you told him!'”
