Coming to a screen near you on Friday, a Nextflix movie directed by a Middlebury manis making it’s debut. Andy Mitchell has lived in Middlebury for nearly 20 years and his newest film Inside the Mind of a Dog, is somewhat of a sequel to his other Netflix movie, Inside the Mind of a Cat. “It was the best year of my life literally spending a year playing with puppies and dogs ,” he said. “It really is a deep dive into all things dog, and you know having grown up with dogs it was really just fun to not only look at the latest science and all the best minds about what’s going on in the dogs brain, but then why are we so close, Mitchell said. The movie narrated by Rob Lowe took roughly a year to produce and interactions with hundred of dogs, but the fun doesn’t stop there. After hearing an idea from his son, Middlebury is looking to set a world record for most dogs to attend a film screening on Saturday. “As I was working on this project my 13 year old son came to me and said hey dad, ‘Paw Patrol’ has a Guinness book record for most dogs to attend a film screening, you should beat that with your movie, so it’s 100% my 13 year old son Billy’s idea which is so great,” said Mitchell. Community members immediately wrapped their arms around the idea. “Middlebury and Vermont in general is such a huge dog town and state that this made perfect sense,” said Ashley Betton. The viewing’s at 4:00pm Saturday at the Memorial Sports Center and free.Veterinarians will be in attendance, and you’ll also be able to donate to the Homeward Bound Addison County Human Society. “I have a sense so many people are going to pull behind this, why could we not put Middlebury on the map as being known for people who put these kind of events together a dog movie an animal movie every year right,” said Kathryn Torres. Registration is roughly two-thirds full so already over 200 dogs are scheduled to attend, the current record is 219 and the cap for this event is 300. There are some rules you and your pet must follow which you can find here, along with pre-registration.
