DEXTER, Mo. (KFVS) – Three-year-old Charlie loves the sound of his mom’s fiddle. Deborah Martin just hopes she can hear that sweet howl again.
“I just really want him to come home and be safe,” Martin said.
Martin tells us the pug-terrier mix got loose right after she checked into the Dexter Inn with her son back on April 7.
“Before I could say anything, he took off to go try to catch Charlie, but he couldn’t catch him,” she said. “They ran across the highway. Charlie ran across the highway and my son ran after him and they lost him, like in a wooded area over here.”
Martin and her friend Paul Garding have spent the last week looking for Charlie, handing out these flyers and searching all over Dexter.
“Paul is a very good friend and not everybody would stop their life for a week or two to travel to Missouri to help find a dog that’s missing.”
Jenn Farmer runs Southeast Missouri Pets, she said one of the best ways to find a dog like Charlie is to get people’s attention on social media.
“Post on SEMO lost pets if you’re in this area, second thing is to check for a chip,” Farmer said.
Farmer said she has experience finding lost dogs and begs owners to not give up.
“We’ve had dogs that have been gone for 3 or 4 months that have returned,” Farmer said.
Martin said she’s willing to do all she can to find her furry friend.
“I’m willing to move here, you know, to try to find Charlie. It’s just like, you know, I miss him so much,” she said.
She said they’ll be staying in Dexter for the next week to search for Charlie. She is offering a reward.
