Missing dog found safe thanks to work by Shaker Heights Detectives

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Social media posts about a missing dog in Shaker Heights went viral over the weekend.

Now thanks to Shaker Heights Police Detectives the missing Tibetan Terrier has been found and safely returned to his best friend.

Les Wagenheim tells 19 News his dog Carrie has been an integral part of his life for the last year and a half.

But on Sunday his four-legged friend was discovered missing after Wagenheim dropped off food to a neighbor. He searched all over for his pet and was desperate to find her, “You always think the worst and just fearful, because who knows what kind of home she would wind up in.”

Carrie was playing in Wagenheim’s backyard on Sunday when she had some separation anxiety and went in search of her human, “Carrie got frustrated because she wanted to be with us.”

During his search, Wagenheim’s phone rang, “It was a young woman who said do you have a dog named Carrie? She read the name from my tag I had on the dog collar.”

The Shaker Heights man couldn’t have been more relieved because the caller said she would be right over to bring over his dog that she picked up as it walked near Van Aken Boulevard. But Wagenheim said after waiting more than an hour he called police, “She had that caller ID blocked and I was totally distraught, I didn’t sleep the whole night.”

When the Shaker man asked detectives how could they find out the blocked number, he was told it would be a long process that could take 90 days and involve a subpoena and the cell phone company.

But just days later Shaker Heights Police Detectives Ischler and Young called Wagenheim with good news, “I said do you have an update? Detective Ischler said I have been than that, I have your dog in the backseat of my car and I’m three minutes away.”

Wagenheim tells 19 News since he got his dog back, he’s decided not to press charges, and he gives all the credit for being reunited with his best friend to Shaker Heights Police Detectives who put in a dogged effort to make sure this dog’s tale had a happy ending
