Mobile Home destroyed by Fire in Newburg; resident & dog escape safely | Valley Times Star

Fire Companies from two counties, both Cumberland and Franklin, were dispatched to a reported structural fire last Friday morning at 8:56 a.m. located in the 100 block of East Creek Road, Hopewell Twp., Newburg.

Randall Pryor, Deputy Fire Chief Newburg-Hopewell Fire Co. said, “Upon arrival of the first unit on the scene they found heavy fire coming from a single wide single story mobile home. The firefighters went to work very quickly pulling several hose lines to extinguish the heavy flames.  At the same time, it was confirmed that an adult and a pet dog were safely out of the mobile home with no reported injuries. The fire spread quickly prior to the arrival of any fire apparatus throughout the mobile home.  It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, making sure all unseen hot spots were completely extinguished. This was followed by some overhaul and salvage operations. The Red Cross was notified to assist the adult and family dog with whatever needs.  The State Police Fire Marshall was notified and did arrive on the scene to assist with the cause of the fire.  The cause of the fire was related to the dryer area in the utility room of the mobile home.” Some units remained on the scene for several hours.  One firefighter was injured and transported to the Chambersburg Hospital with only minor injuries.

Assisting the Newburg-Hopewell Fire Co. on the call were the West End Fire & Rescue Co., Vigilant Hose Co., Cumberland Valley Hose Co., Shippensburg Area EMS, Friendship Hose Co. of Newville, South Newton Twp. Fire Co., Letterkenny Army Depot Fire Dept. and Fire Police.
