TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – The Pima Animal Care Center is starting another week at critical capacity.
They currently have several dogs on deadline due to severe overcrowding. The shelter says there will be more to come if they are not able to reduce their numbers.
This past week, PACC has taken in 271 dogs, with 146 of them being strays. These additions put the shelter at 529 dogs.
PACC says they desperately need fosters and adopters. However, they also need help getting the dogs back to their owners.
“Remember, if you find a friendly, healthy stray pet, the best thing you can do for them is try to find their owner before bringing them to the shelter! There are so many tools available, from lost.petcolove.org's facial recognition technology to simple flyers and posts on social media, or even simply walking the dog around the neighborhood,” said a spokesperson for PACC on social media.
They added that dogs brought to the shelter are statistically less likely to be reunited with their families.
Dogs and puppies are currently free to adopt and come microchipped, spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines.
The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more hours, click here.
