DENVER (KDVR) — A golden retriever puppy that was stolen from a Thornton pet store has been recovered, but the store told FOX31 that even more puppies have gone missing.
In February, police were investigating a theft at the Pet Ranch, located at 3833 E. 120th Ave. in Thornton. The store said two thieves walked out with a puppy priced at nearly $3,000.
The duo, a man and a woman, entered the pet store and attempted to distract an employee with questions about the dogs.
Minutes later, the man picked up the 2-month-old female golden retriever from its pen and stuffed the puppy inside his jacket.
Nearly a month later, the pet store has good news.
Renee Reese, the owner of Pet Ranch, told FOX31’s Alliyah Simms that the golden retriever has been recovered. They are now waiting for the pup to come home.
However, with the good news comes more bad news. Reese said two tiny teacup Yorkies were stolen on Friday.
The pet store is especially concerned about these pups because Reese said they are in need of medication. If they don’t receive that medication, they could die within 48 hours.
According to Reese, the person who allegedly grabbed the pups wasn’t even in the store for 40 seconds.
FOX31 has reached out to police to learn more information about the theft and investigation.
