Finding the best travel destinations for dogs and cats can be tricky, but Stanton House Inn , a boutique inn in Greenwich, Connecticut, organized a study in a bid to find out which US destinations are the most pet-friendly, and it makes for fascinating reading. With more than 700 cities and their pet-friendly hotel , restaurant, and activity listings on BringFido examined, there’s plenty of data to explore, so let’s dive in.
First things first, Rhode Island is the most pet-friendly state. This is because it has 560 pet-friendly hotels, 355 restaurants, and 116 activities packed into it, so head to Cranston, Westerly, or Newport for a fun vacation with your furry friends.
Massachusetts and New Jersey come in at second and third place respectively, with the former boasting over 3,000 pet-friendly hotels, as well as almost 1,500 restaurants, and 703 activities. The latter has 2,250 pet-friendly hotels, more than 1,700 restaurants, and 482 activities. In Massachusetts, you could head to Edgartown, Cambridge, or Provincetown, while the best New Jersey destinations include Cape May, Wildwood, and Ocean City.
Delaware, Florida, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and New York round off the top ten, but what about the most pet-friendly individual cities?
Texas may not have cracked the top ten states, but Houston comes out as the most pet-friendly city. There are 498 pet-friendly hotels, 536 restaurants, and 72 activities, with a great range of parks and cafés to enjoy with your furry friend.
Other cities to explore include Denver, Colorado, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On the other end of the scale, however, are the least pet-friendly states. While there will be more pet-friendly cities in every state, and there’s no need to rule any out altogether, some states have fewer pet-friendly amenities.
Bringing up the rear is Alaska in last place, followed by North Dakota and Wyoming. Nebraska and Montana make up the rest of the bottom five.
