Christy made it her life mission to provide properly trained service dogs to those in need in Maine. The 5K will start at Oxbow and run along the blue ski trail (Anne’s Moon Dance) then up to the Mission Working Dogs training center via a trail connector to Moxie’s Place and back to the brewery.
The first 200 in-person participants will receive a race t-shirt at check-in. Additional Mission Working Dogs merchandise will be available for purchase.
Can I bring my pet to Moxie’s Memorial 5K in Oxford, Maine?
Due to safety and liability regulations, only properly trained service dogs will be allowed on the race course – no pets. But when you come (and you are 21 and over) you get a beer ticket to Oxbow Beer Garden for that race day. Oxbow’s kitchen will open early for the day at 11 am so you can enjoy pizza and drinks after the race.
Join Moxie’s Memorial 5k on Saturday, September 28 in Oxford, Maine.
Who is Christy Gardner?
Christy Gardner is the Founder and President of Mission Working Dogs. Christy’s passion for dogs has deep, personal roots. Serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army Military Police in Asia, Christy survived an injury in 2006, eventually leading her to accept her golden retriever service dog, Moxie, in 2010. The two became inseparable and Moxie accompanied Christy on many “missions” of their own, including competing with Team USA as an athlete on the Women’s Para Ice Hockey Team and the USA Para Surfing Team.
She’s a Mainer with her new service dog Douggie and having no legs has not slowed her down one bit. She loves to kayak, hike, camp, and camp in Western Maine. Christy is an extraordinary human and if you can participate in Moxie’s Memorial 5k, you will find out for yourself.
