MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) — It’s an award that organizers say is given to “individuals who have made a significant contribution to the lives of animals in Jefferson County.” One of this year’s Top Dog Award recipients also happens to be responsible for sending potential pets to News 3 This Morning for our “Pets of the Week” segment. Char Rosa and Mike Hensley are this year’s Top Dog Award winners.
According to the Pawfest Committee, the group giving the award with Mt. Vernon Festivals, Inc., said Rosa has been with Jefferson County Animal Control for 12 years, tirelessly trying to find their pets a loving home. Char is dedicated at what she does, and consistently sends candidates for the News 3 This Morning “Pets of the Week” segment.
Mike Hensley is a regular at Jefferson County Animal Control, coming to walk and train the dogs 3 to 4 times a week. According to the committee, Hensley makes a true impact on the animals kept at the shelter.
The Top Dog Award is given in conjunction with the annual PawFest event held in June. Both Hensley and Rosa were presented their awards at that time.
Mt.Vernon Festivals, Inc. Director, Angela Schrum, said both Hensley and Rosa are true animal lovers, “who have made a lasting impact on our community.”
