A Reddit user is asking if he's the a****** for getting his neighborhood's annual dog Olympics canceled.
The person explains on the AITA Reddit page: ‘5-6 years ago my HOA decided our neighborhood is boring and encouraged people to come up with ideas/activities to liven things up. This, my Pup Olympics was born.'
All was good fun until a competitive poodle moved into the neighborhood that ‘ruined pup Olympics' but sweeping every category in the previous year's competition, except for the one it was ineligible for since it was not a senior dog.
As a result, the Olympic committee decided on a ‘No Competition Dogs' rule – but the poodle owner didn't take the news well, showing up to an HOA meeting and ‘going ballistic'. The HOA caved, agreeing that the poodle could not be excluded.
A compromise was put in place that would allow the poodle would compete in 8 out of 10 events, but the Reddit user did not agree with it, and instead chose to cancel the entire competition.
The poodle owner has allegedly sent the Reddit user ‘vindictive' messages, claiming the cancellation was a personal attack.

Pup Olympics was a popular event that took place at the HOA's for laughs and good fun as the competitors were not professional.
Several people are sticking by the Reddit user who admitted to this being, ‘a silly issue to have.'
One person said: ‘NTA. If you had a race for neighborhood kids and an olympic gold medalist runner showed up to enter, that's be an AH move.'
They continued: ‘This is no different, and the fact that the owner can't understand why her precious shouldn't be allowed to dominate the amateur competitions shows a huge lack of awareness.'
Another person commented: ‘I came here ready to call you the AH but what kind of unhinged ultra-competitive weirdo moved into your neighborhood?
They went on: ‘the Olympics are for amateurs and poodle lady is a professional who is sucking away all the fun from your neighborhood. NTA.'
Another user who stated that the Reddit poster is, ‘absolutely NTA' made two suggestions on what to do in the future.
The first being: ‘remove all cash prizes to people, have the cash prize for winning go to the shelter instead: “this donation courtesy of Brutus Bumblewoof, Best in Show.”‘
The second: ‘make a huge deal about second place winners.'
Social media has been backing up the Reddit user for his actions, and have criticized the HOA and the owner of the poodle
Poodles are beautiful animals that can be worth between $600-$2,000 to adopt. The breed has also had several dog show wins – one of which being at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club dog show
Dog Olympics has appeared to become a frequent event at humane societies around the country, and more than 20 dog shows and expos are scheduled to take place between this month and December, 2024 in the US.
One well known poodle in the dog word is Siba – A Standard Poodle who won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 2020.
Unfortunately, poodles don't come cheap, and Spot Pet Insurance reported the average cost of a well-bred puppy in 2023 can range between $600-$2,000.
The Reddit user did not indicate what type of poodle the neighbor owned, but did say that it has, ‘a million followers on Instagram.'
